Mahmoud M. El-Halwagi
Professor, Chemical Engineering
Bryan Research and Engineering Chair in Chemical Engineering
Managing Director, TEES Gas and Fuels Research Center
Mahmoud El-Halwagi is Professor and Holder of the Bryan Research and Engineering Chair in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University, and Managing Director of the Gas and Fuels Research Center. He is internationally recognized for pioneering work in process integration and sustainable design with applications across the energy and hydrocarbon processing industries. He has authored several books, including three textbooks on sustainable process design and integration, and has published hundreds of refereed papers and book chapters. He has consulted on more than fifty industrial projects across the energy, chemical, petrochemical, fuels, and pharmaceutical sectors. His research develops systematic, generally applicable methods and tools that help engineers design and operate gas and fuels processing facilities. The work provides global insight into processes and the root causes of performance limitations, establishes pre-design performance targets through rigorous targeting methods, and generates and screens solution alternatives to deliver high-performing designs and operating strategies. The group’s multi-objective frameworks advance resource and energy conservation, reuse and recycling, pollution prevention, process safety, product quality, yield improvement, debottlenecking and capital productivity, and profitability.
He received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his MS and BS from Cairo University.
